 Fixing File Access Issues on
Android 10 to 15 Without Root

With the recent updates to Android (versions 10 through 15), many users have encountered difficulties accessing certain files and folders on their devices. While this issue might seem minor to some, it can be extremely frustrating for those who rely on their phones to transfer, edit, or manage files, photos, and other media in their daily lives.

A common assumption is that the only solution is to root the device. However, rooting exposes your phone to serious security risks and often voids its warranty. Fortunately, there is a safer and more efficient way to regain access to your files — by using an official tool called Shizuku. I personally tested it on Android 15, and it worked flawlessly.

Why Does This Problem Occur?

Starting with Android 10, Google introduced a new storage system known as Scoped Storage. This mechanism restricts how apps can access system files and directories. The main goals were:

Increasing overall device security.

Protecting user privacy.

Preventing malicious apps from tampering with system files.

Stopping users from exploiting apps or games in ways that harm developers’ interests.

While these changes were well-intentioned, they left many ordinary users unable to access files they once managed freely. This unexpected restriction also disrupted many file management apps, which suddenly lost the ability to perform tasks they were designed for.

The Solution: Using Shizuku

What is Shizuku?

Shizuku is a free and safe app available on the Google Play Store. It allows certain apps (like advanced file managers) to gain additional permissions for file access without requiring root.

I personally used Shizuku on Android 15, and the experience was smooth, secure, and reliable.

Steps to Install and Use Shizuku

1. Download Shizuku from Google Play

2. Launch the app — You’ll see two main options to activate it:

Via ADB (for advanced users).

Via Wireless debugging (the easiest method for Android 11 and above).

3. Activate Wireless Debugging

Go to Settings > Developer options

(If Developer options are hidden, enable them by tapping “Build number” several times in About phone).

Turn on Wireless debugging.

Tap Pair device with pairing code, then enter the 6-digit code that appears in your notifications.

4. Go back to Shizuku and tap Start.

Wait a few seconds until it activates successfully.

5. Grant access to supported apps

Here you can choose which programs you can give Shizuku permissions to.

For example, apps like ZArchiver or certain file managers can now request and receive Shizuku permissions.

Once granted, these apps can access files and folders that were previously restricted.

⚠️ Note: Each time you want to transfer files, you’ll need to re-enable Shizuku.

Advantages of This Method

✅ 100% Safe — No rooting required.

✅ Official — Available directly from Google Play.

✅ Compatible — Works on Android 10 through 15.

✅ Non-intrusive — Does not affect performance or void warranty.

✅ Balanced — Provides more control than regular users, without the risks of root.

Warnings and Recommendations

Use Shizuku only for managing your personal files and app data.

Avoid tampering with sensitive system files — this may cause device instability.

Always keep Shizuku and supported apps updated to the latest versions.

Conclusion

The file access restrictions introduced in Android 10 through 15 have been a source of frustration for many users. Thankfully, with Shizuku, you can regain control of your files safely and easily — without resorting to root or risky workarounds.

I highly recommend trying this method before considering complicated or unsafe solutions.
